One Room Challenge

I have been dying to participate in a "One Room Challenge" in our home.  I had originally planned to begin this by completing our Dining Room.  Although, I still plan to follow through with that design board in time, I am not sold on a few big changes we had planned for that space.. and so, until I am fully committed, that room will remain on hold.

In the mean time I have been craving a fresh and cozy space for us to retreat to at the end of a long day - our master bedroom.





I have had the same look going on in here for 5 years now and inevitably (as with the rest of our house) our style has changed.  This is the current look we have - I have flipped the quilt over and taken down lamps that were too heavy.  I have taken everything off of the walls as well.  I just wanted a blank canvas for a while - I need that in order to create a new space.

As you can tell, its very plain in here.  EVERYTHING is beige! Even the ceiling! UGH!  The goal for us to create a space that reflects more of ourselves in the space that is designed to be just for us!

I am deciding what color I would like to paint the room.  I want some contrast between the walls and the floor.  It's all so beige.  The only thing that isn't changing in this room is the furniture.  We bought this set when we first got married and we are not in the market for new furniture.  I think we can work around the traditional style of each piece with a little creativity and imagination.. and maybe some paint??

Our bedroom is rather large and has a separate room for a sitting area.  Neither of us are looking for a formal setting and with downsizing in our future, we don't want to buy additional furniture to fill in empty space we will most likely not have in our next house.  I have a couple of ideas that I am excited to try out to help make the space comfortable with less.

This is the first design board I created with pieces I want to incorporate into our room.  My thought is that it will provide just enough of a modern feel to offset the traditional furniture and give us a new fresh space to relax in and enjoy.  As usual, lots of greenery and neutrals.  This design also allows me to keep my quit.  The total cost of this space without paint or rug would be right at $400.

The second design board I created gives the room a simple refresh with new bedding, paint and simple decor.  It is definitely less modern but provides a cozy, more modern farmhouse appeal.  This is comparable in price with the other design board with the total cost coming in at $500.  In this option I get to keep the lamps I already have and instead invest in new bedding.  I also already own this basket and I LOVE it!

This bedding comes in cream, but with dogs I felt that the grey was a better option for us.  I also love the romantic feel the darker colors bring.

The only draw back for this board is that it doesn't address the sitting area we have in our room.  I have an old chair that I could have covered and use it in that space if needed but it wasn't what I wanted.  That might have to be part two of the One Room Challenge.
